Reading the line while the game runs

In play, the prices answer to the scoreboard, the clock and the major incidents. An opening goal shifts the match-winner market at once and resets the totals; the same one-goal lead is priced differently at the 25th minute and at the 80th, because remaining time is part of the calculation. A red card moves the line almost as hard as a goal, and the earlier it comes, the larger the correction. After any of these, the markets pause for a few seconds while the model recalculates, then reopen at adjusted values — a stake sent during the pause is simply not accepted.

The 28 + 6 split means a club spends most of the year against its own conference — and that is where the playoff hierarchy is decided. The final round of the regular season, Decision Day, falls on Saturday 7 November, when the last qualifying places are settled.

The first round is a best-of-three: two wins go through, and losing the opener still leaves a way back. From then on it is single matches, where a mistake has no second chance. For in-play reading the difference is tangible — a series carries a tomorrow, a one-off does not, and the live prices carry that difference in pressure.

The record books

LA Galaxy lead the history of the competition with six MLS Cups, ahead of D.C. United on four and Columbus Crew on three. Behind them, several clubs hold two titles each, so there is no single fourth name in the list.
